Monica Humphrey, Exhibit Manager
After watching this interview I was not only able to learn more about the Children's Museum of Indianapolis but also learn more about how themed entertainment takes place in museums. When I started this Certificate/class I usually related Themed Entertainment with Theme parks, attractions, and more technical experiences like a Theater play like Broadway-themed lands... However after reading multiple books, including "Theme Park Design", and listening to podcasts, and interviews (this one included) I am now able to relate theme Entertainment with museums, children's hospitals, hotels, casinos, and more. Before watching this interview, I had heard about the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, but was not familiar with it, nor did I know that it was the largest children's museum in the world. After looking at more pictures, videos, and details of this museum I was completely impressed.
Before this class I never considered working in a museum, however, now is something I would definitely consider. The storytelling that goes behind a museum, especially children's museums is something that seems extremely interesting to me. Working as a designer/engineer, with other artists, and project managers, to create experiences and stories not only for children but families, and groups of people Is definitely something that I would love to do.
I really enjoyed learning about the processes (Learn-See-Do) and tools that Monica Humphry uses on a day-to-day basis. I found very valuable and interesting the idea of never forgetting how to be a visitor and looking through a visitor’s eye. Personally, this is something I would love to not only learn but practice and get more experience in doing. I would also like to learn more about how to evaluate their successes and failures, is it based on capital success, experiences, engagement, or a mix of all?
