Lara Hutchman, Designer
After watching the interview with Laura Hutchman, I was able to expand my understanding of themed entertainment not just in theme parks, attractions, and theater plays, but also in museums. Before this video, I was unfamiliar with the Newfields Museum of Indianapolis, but after researching and learning more about it, I was impressed by the scale of the museum and the attention to detail in its exhibitions.
I was also interested in learning about Laura's experience as a designer in the museum, specifically her use of computer modeling, graphic design, and physical models to create exhibits. The combination of digital and physical tools to bring exhibitions to life was something I found fascinating. The idea of working on a museum as a designer or engineer and collaborating with other artists and project managers to tell stories and create experiences for visitors was something that I now consider as a career option.
Laura's insight into the museum's process of "Learn-See-Do" and the importance of always considering the visitor's perspective was valuable and inspiring. I would like to learn more about how museums evaluate the success of their exhibitions and if it's based on financial success, visitor experience, engagement, or a combination of all.
